You don’t always get what you pay for as our long time client learned the hard way. During the construction of a brand new store, with a walk-in beverage cooler, graphics were installed by a vendor working for the builder.
Everything seemed to be looking good for the first couple of weeks of operation but then the store manager noticed that the graphics in the beverage cooler were starting to sag and loose adhesion. When the original installers declined to return and correct their problem, National Coating Solutions was called to take corrective actions.
After meeting with the store manager and investigating the wall graphics it was determined that the culprit was poor installation techniques. The insulated walls were not properly cleaned before installation and the graphics weren’t applied aggressively enough. National Coating Solutions moved all product into another cooler before shutting it down and then proceeded to remove all of the old graphics. Once all of the graphics were removed the walls were cleaned so that there were no contaminants that would prevent proper adhesion of new graphics. The beverage cooler wall panels had a dimpled surface that made it difficult to achieve proper surface contact between the walls and the cooler, which is why National Coating Solutions used more aggressive installation techniques to ensure proper adhesion with the walls.
SCOPE OF WORK:
1. Investigate the cause for graphics failure.
2. Communicate with store manager as to the best time to shut down cooler.
3. Relocate product to another cooler so that walk-in beverage cooler can be shut down.
4. Remove all old graphics and clean walls.
5. Install new graphics and replace stock items
CHALLENGES:
1. Determining the cause for graphics failure; was it the product or was it the installers?
2. The cooler needs to be at room temperature.
3. There is only a limited time to work and removal of graphics is an unknown factor.
4. Applying new graphics to a textured surface.
SOLUTIONS:
1. Ultimate cause for failure was the lack of a clean surface to apply graphics.
2. Product was removed in order to shut down the cooler after normal business hours.
3. Graphics were able to be removed before shut down of cooler and not affecting customer service.
4. New graphics were applied to a clean sound surface and aggressive techniques were used to provide proper amount of surface adhesion.
5. All product was returned and cooler turned on in time for morning rush.
